I am Bridget Schaeffers
Mama, wife, daughter, sister and aunty. My family and friends are at the centre of my universe. My two wisdom children Madison and Margot are my greatest teachers. They inspire me to live life with presence, joy and curiosity. My husband Tim is my rock — he has met all of my endings and new beginnings. His grounding presence has supported me in rediscovering the authentic me, and falling in love with life again.
My love affair with yoga began in the foothills of the Himalayas.
In January 2013, I felt a calling to travel to India. I remember arriving in Dharamshala and experiencing a profound sense of belonging — as though I had come home.
It was there that I attended my first yoga class with teacher Mahinda Prasad and discovered what felt like the missing piece I had been searching for all my life.
In 2015, I returned to Dharamshala to complete a 200-hour yoga teacher training, an experience that deepened my understanding of yoga and affirmed my belief in its capacity to heal, transform, and reconnect us to our true nature.
Towards the end of the training, Mahi and I spoke about our shared intention to spread the light of yoga. It was there, in the foothills of the Himalayas, that the seed for The Yoga Travel Co. was planted.
Three years later, I founded my dream retreat business and spent the next seven years on a journey of shared discovery alongside many beautiful souls. I will forever be grateful for the life-changing experiences, friendships, and personal growth that emerged through this community.
Since then, I have been blessed to learn from a diverse circle of teachers, mentors, and wisdom traditions. These teachings have been received through trainings, retreats, workshops, and one-to-one mentorship, each leaving a lasting imprint on my journey.
I have intentionally moved through study slowly, allowing the teachings to be embodied and integrated through the classroom of life. In 2025, I began a restorative yoga training with Kirstie Cleary and am currently completing an advanced 300-hour yoga teacher training with the New Zealand Yoga Collective.
